Line with Action and Slow Shutter

In the Elements of Art section for Line with Action we are going to learn about slowing the shutter down on the camera to give blur and lines that suggest motion and action. After the slow shutter projects below, you will learn to change the shutter speed to stop action.  This section is NOT STOPPED ACTION.  You must see motion blur from the shutter speed slowed down.

Panning - 3 photos = 12 pts:

The first section is Panning.  For this, you get your body, camera, shoulders and such in sync with the subject that is being photograph.  DO NOT PHOTOGRAPH AN OBJECT COMING AT YOU.  You get in sync with a person or object moving sideways or up or down.

Sideways can be a person walking or running or riding a bike or a dog chasing a ball ect.  It does not have to be a person, but using each other will be an easy choice.  Something going up can be a ball thrown up  or leaves but you need to have something in the background to show the movement, so a plain blue sky will not work.

Down can be a leaf, feather or someone jumping off a step etc.

DO NOT DO ANYTHING UNSAFE OR UNAPPROPRIATED ON CAMPUS TO GET THIS SHOT!  DO NOT CLIMB IN TREES, JUMP DOWN MORE THAN ONE STEP ECT!

Camera Settings:

Use shutter speed priority (S on the dial)  set to 1/20th give or take.  It can be 1/10th if subject is moving slower and possibly 1/30th if the subject is moving faster.  Be at 100 ISO.

Take many photos to get a good one, you need a strong element in focus for these to work.  Most students take around 20 or 30 to get a couple good ones. You will turn in a total of three good ones into dropbox in your Elements of Art folder called linewaction1.jpg, linewaction2.jpg and linewaction3.jpg.  Shoot them in RAW mode and save as .jpgs.  Give them all basic editing.
