Carolynn Helton's Classes
This site shows all the classes I have taught or currently teach. My goal is to have all the curriculum available here online for students, parents and myself. Currently I am teaching Photography/Yearbook, Art Exporations, Video/Media, Leadership and Mixed Media Arts at ERCLC (Eleanor Roosevelt) .
Legacy Lenses
Overview: In this lesson, you will learn to change the settings in the camera for manual focus as well as how to set the focus peaking option. The settings for this are under the geer icon on the menu under number 2. The cameras we have include newer technology which allows this. It works better when at a shallow depth of field (lower aperture (f stop and aperture are the same thing). ISO depends on how much light you have. If you are in lower light, 800, 1000 or 1200 might be needed to hand hold your camera. If bright light 100 or 200. Medium light 400 or 800. While the technical part of this is there, it

Requirements: Follow the instructions below and look at the samples for how to implement. YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE MORE THAN JUST THE REQUIRED IMAGES! YOU WON'T SEE IF THE SUBJECT IS OUT OF FOCUS SOMETIMES UNTIL IT IS ON THE COMPUTER. Each final image needs edited with at least basic editing.
Legacy/Old Glass Lenses total images = 24 images

LENS - Ultra Wide angle Laowe 15mm lens = 3 images
1 Photo macro (super close up to something), 2 photos of your choice

LENS - Pentax Takumar 135mm = 3 images
2 shot at Aperture 2.5 (shallow depth of field) and 1 at Aperture 11 (Ideal medium high a depth of field. A lot of lenses loose some sharpness quality after F11. TAKE NOTE, F11 will be harder to see the focus peaking).

LENS - 85mm 1.5 Helios = 9 images
3 at Aperture 4 with the subject (flower, person, dog ect about 10 feet or so in front of a tree with the sun behind it so you get the bubbles in the background. Basically the blurred off background has contrast of light and dark to get bubble bokeh.

Helios creamy smooth background (make sure subject is in focus!) = 3
3 at Aperture 1.5 your choice but has to have a subject in focus and not be just a landscape. The bokeh (background) will be creamy and not the bubbly swirled.

Helios swirley bokeh = 3
3 at F4 (trick is distance of background and contrast from the subject). Very simular to the first 3 for Helios, but this one try to get lens Flare, orbs or other artsy effects as well.

LENS - Helios Anamorphic = 3
it is the one with the cat eye shape when you look inside. Be at f2 and have light hit from behind (sun, cell phone light, video or street lights).

LENS - Helios 44 animorphic or 85 lens flare. = 3
3 photos. Make sure you are shooting with light being behind the subject to cause flare, sometimes it works better if sun is just outside the view to the side. Be at Aperture 1.5 or 2 to get flare.
LENS - any of the macro lenses = 3
3 photos. You have to use one of the legacy lenses, not the macro clips on the phone. Look for a different world to show by being super close up. Water drops can be interesting (use spray bottles from class), insects, eyes, close up of leaves and flowers. You can also make it more absract but if you do, play attention to composition applying the elements of art.
