Carolynn Helton's Classes
This site shows all the classes I have taught or currently teach. My goal is to have all the curriculum available here online for students, parents and myself. Currently I am teaching Photography/Yearbook, Art Exporations, Video/Media, Leadership and Mixed Media Arts at ERCLC (Eleanor Roosevelt) .
PART 1 OF ILLUSTRATION - SELF PORTRAIT
This project is worth 100 points. You need to use a portrait of yourself and put it into an environment that can be design elements or locations. See the samples below.
Requirements:
Use the pen tool to cut out your whole self and then layers of your self to give dimension by using layers of different values. Make that layer flat and filled in with a value. So, if the base layer of yourself is darkest, the others will get lighter going to the highlight points.

You will have lots of paths, name them even if it is numbers to know which is at the bottom and which is at the top! Plus if you do not name them, the paths will not be saved. Make a selection out of each, then a new layer and go to edit/Fill and choose the color. You can use the eye dropper from the color selection to make skin tones and such. Fill that layer, then turn off the eye ball on the layer so you can work on the next layer.

Do the illustration of yourself first. Once this is done, then add backgrounds or images on top to give the environment. The Environment needs to look illustrated and flat with layers as well. See samples below. Turn into dropbox in a folder called "Illustration" and name this project "Self-Portrait-Illustration.psd"
